The purpose of this study is to analyze whether there was a taste change in Korean meat demand due to bovine spongiform encephalopaphy (BSE) discovered in December 2003. We use both parametric approach method and nonparametric approach method to detect taste changes. The results of both two methods, based on annual data from 1990 to 2012, suggest that taste change was biased against beef and in favor of pork after the BSE announcement. The result of nonparametric approach indicates a movement against beef until 2008, followed by a slight movement toward beef until 2012.
