The purpose of this study is estimating the shadow price of agricultural water inputs. This study utilizes a rice production and cost data set obtained from an experimental station. Both parametric and non-parametric approaches have been used to test the existence of input substitutability between agricultural water and chemical inputs (fertilizers). The null hypothesis that there is no substitutability between these two inputs is rejected from both mode니. A non-nested hypothesis test shows that a square-root or quadratic specification of production function is superior to the von Liebig functional forms. The shadow price of agricultural water defined as the marginal rate of technical substitution times the price of chemical inputs is estimated as ranging from 6.4 to 301.8 won per ton. For the average level of rice production (500~600kg per 10a) the shadow price is about 38 won per ton.
